The beginning of the rainy season leads to an increase in the number of mosquitoes, especially the Asian tiger mosquito, an invasive species that appear in urban areas. This mosquito comes from South Asia and its bites are very painful. It also carries a risk of transmitting diseases.
One of the solutions or preventive measures to avoid mosquitoes and their bites is to place flyscreens on all windows and doors in the house. The flyscreens are an impenetrable barrier for them and, at the same time, allow the ventilation of the house. There are also travel flyscreens to put on the bed, some of which are impregnated with repellents or insecticides.
Despite the several preventive treatments that have been carried out, species such as the tiger mosquito have not been exterminated anywhere in the world. In the Balearics, there is also a population of tiger mosquitoes, so flyscreens are the only effective barrier to keep them out of our homes.
